She is the mom of one of my favorite clients, Emmanuel Logan Green, and today two moms. Talk about what it’s like to have a student, a child off playing sports in. , especially when they’re far away from you.

[00:00:27] Ruth Cummings: Please enjoy this very fun conversation with Desiree and let’s take a deep breath to relax. Ready?

[00:00:39] Ruth Cummings: All right, here we go.

[00:00:41] Recording: You’re listening to your body advocate, telling your body’s side of the story, the podcast dedicated to supporting and improving your body mind connection so you can live a pain-free, passion filled life, dissolving one body tension at a time, discover the healing properties of your own body language, and together let’s explore ways to support and improve essential self.

[00:01:04] Recording: Now here’s your host, master of Encouragement and Body Mind, life Coach Ruth Cummings.

[00:01:13] Ruth Cummings: All right, I have a special guest today. Will you introduce yourself please? And how did

[00:01:19] Desiree Logan: we meet? My name is Desiree Logan and I met through my son Emanuel Green, who’s formally attended University of New Mexico as a football player, wide receiver.

[00:01:31] Ruth Cummings: Nice number s.

[00:01:33] Desiree Logan: Yes. Here’s number 17, but number seven is the best number for you.

[00:01:37] Desiree Logan: Yeah, number

[00:01:38] Ruth Cummings: seven. We love that number. Oh, that’s good. All right. Well, I know, uh, you haven’t done this before, so thanks for being here. You’re quite welcome. And I’m glad that, you know, it’s like we’re hard to look at each other to be, since we only have one camera, but, okay. Um, yeah, so I have this podcast that I run called Your Body.

[00:02:00] Ruth Cummings: And I wanted to ask you a few questions. So one of the things that, um, I wanted to ask you is your impression from being far away and listening to your son being coached by me. And, um, he and I have another podcast where we talk about where we met and how that all evolved. But I wanted to hear your.

[00:02:27] Desiree Logan: First, um, my first impression is coming over here. I always hear my son talking. My mom, mom, ma, you need to miss meet Miss Ru one day. So when you come over here for Thanksgiving, when my first time meeting Miss Ru, he say, mom, she’s the best. I get the best massage. I gotta go get me my massage and stuff. Um, and since my injury, she been encouraging me, giving me the best tips and what I need to do, and I appreci.

[00:02:53] Desiree Logan: a lot of that, especially being on the other side, on the east coast of Flo, um, the United States. And my son is in the best hand with Ms. Ru because she give him encouraging words, especially as a young African American band, and he don’t get that much. And I appreciate every bit of her showing her as that, like that second mother instinct and giving it to him to, during his time from family member of his.

[00:03:22] Desiree Logan: side of the family. .

[00:03:25] Ruth Cummings: That was perfect.

[00:03:30] Ruth Cummings: Um, yeah. So, um, I was putting myself in your shoes as a mom. Like my daughter’s off now, you know, she plays in collegiate sports and it’s hard like, um, Because they’re still young,

[00:03:43] Desiree Logan: you know, they’re still, they’re still growing, they’re still developing, and of course they want that trustworthy person that if their mom is not around, they want that trust per where they can put their trust in that person and leading them gather the same way they would lead and guide their own children too.

[00:03:59] Desiree Logan: Yes.

[00:04:00] Ruth Cummings: Yes. I definitely feel. , my motherly mama bear instinct definitely comes up and it’s

[00:04:06] Desiree Logan: very appreciated and helpful.

[00:04:08] Ruth Cummings: Oh, , you, I become very protective, you know, just like I would my own kids. And, um, my kids always say that like, mom, you, you know, everybody wants to be, everybody wants you to be their mama, mama Ru , and.

[00:04:25] Ruth Cummings: But yeah. So I want you to know that. I mean, he’s not here anymore. No. But um, yeah, we take him in like he’s one of our own mm-hmm. and, um, give him

[00:04:35] Desiree Logan: the best I can tell. I can tell because he always talking every time I get on the phone and call and stuff. And when he was over the last time visit, he say, you gotta go see Ms.

[00:04:45] Desiree Logan: Ru. You gotta meet Mark. Come on, you gotta meet Ms. Ru. And yes, I have met Ms. . And yes, you can feel you get that vibe, especially from her mother as well. Men making them Christmas cards, . Oh yes.

[00:04:57] Ruth Cummings: And I love that. So fun. I love my mama. Excuse me. Um, so, you know, another just a little part that we’ve worked together on is, um, you know, it’s quite hard to explain what I do for people.

[00:05:13] Ruth Cummings: Mm-hmm. and um, cuz I do massage, but it’s not just, and I’ve been doing massages so long that it’s hard for me to, um, to explain it. But what I’m trying to do is show people where emotion is held in their body and why and how to get it to be let go and to let it go in their mind and their body. Is there anything that, like, how do you feel about that?

[00:05:42] Ruth Cummings: Where do you think emotion is held in the body? Do you think it’s important? Do you think it’s, it’s, , what’s your impression?

[00:05:48] Desiree Logan: Of course, it’s real motion is the main one. Not, I wouldn’t say number one, but it pays a factor in your, of your body, your mind, and everything that you go through in life and that would affect on your body.

[00:06:00] Desiree Logan: Ms. Ruth today gave me the amazing, trust me, cuz I already feeling tense. in my back, lower back from a accident that happened two and a half years ago. And um, yeah, she pinpointed to that area as well in getting to Then she let me know where my fear worry lies, and that plays a doorman with the mind as well too.

[00:06:23] Desiree Logan: And she, for the first time is to let me know, but now since I have her phone number and I’m. a miles away. I can call her and ask her and get to encourage her. What in the body? Plays in the body because trust me, I didn’t really know that at first until as she was massaging me. She let me know where the fear, the worry, everything else, the muscle, what it.

[00:06:47] Desiree Logan: Place, uh, contribute towards my body and it helped. And after I had the massage, I kind of feel the release and the relax of it too. I could really take a good nap right now before I hit this road. , now she’s

[00:06:59] Ruth Cummings: about to drive back. Well, actually Louisiana and then back to Florida. Yes. Well, tell me in your, you know, um, I know you’re a godly woman.

[00:07:10] Ruth Cummings: Yes. What, what is the, where do you think, do you. . And do you feel that you can find God in

[00:07:17] Desiree Logan: your body? Yes. If you apply God in His word to your body, your mind, of course. And it will help in relax and release of every tense, anxious, an anxiety, which I have, I have it bad and my anxiety really deals with my breathing and sometimes I feel I can’t catch it, but, and.

[00:07:39] Desiree Logan: just ask God to help me, to guide me in the release because I know that is nothing but the enemy. Wanna play tricks on my mind, but she let me know how to do my body to release that. So I, um, to control that anxiety that’s causing me to feel like I cannot breathe and I’m gonna try to keep constant sleep.

[00:08:00] Desiree Logan: Think about every time I’m sitting there at work and that one tense want to come up that I cannot breathe, I will go to that at that point and relax myself to release that. Because it is nothing but the fear on the fear of the enemy. Wanna play tricks on your mind?

[00:08:16] Ruth Cummings: That’s good. So you’re, so it is an interesting word question I get.

[00:08:21] Ruth Cummings: Mm-hmm. is where, where can I find God in my body? When people are questioning that, then. and I actually did another podcast on this, and I’m, I’m just asking as many people as I can because I think it’s a, it’s different for everybody. Would

[00:08:36] Desiree Logan: you agree with that? Mm-hmm. , everybody had their own opinion, a different way of thinking where, where God applies in my body, if I’m saying that right?

[00:08:44] Ruth Cummings: Yeah. So if you, if someone asked you or if someone is wondering, and like how I explain it doesn’t really make sense to them. Mm-hmm. . So someone says to you, Desiree, how do I find God in my body? What would you. ,

[00:08:58] Desiree Logan: I would never a was asked that question. I, I, me, I find God all over it, is study his word, applying his word into my body and it’s, it’s all over.

[00:09:13] Desiree Logan: You can feel the presence of the God around you and it’s how you take it. We are impatient, but we need to be calm, relaxed and stuff. That’s me in my opinion. I take God word because God speak to you softly. He’s not a harsh, he’s not a mean, he’s not aggressive. He’s a love, soft, gentle person and he speak to you within and just sitting there relaxing.

[00:09:38] Desiree Logan: Get in the meditate area where you feel comfortable in within yourself and just listen to him. And I know it’s kind of hard because we have family, we have things to do, but to apply God in our, my, our body. Take him in our mind and relax it all the way through your body and stuff, and you, you really will calm down.

[00:09:57] Desiree Logan: I try. I do try sometime, but yeah, sometimes I get impatient, but sometimes you have to take that time for my, I have to take that time for myself and apply God to my body and, and it’ll be a big release and break too as well. Yes.

[00:10:12] Ruth Cummings: Awesome. That’s, well, you know, that’s good. I think it’s good to get different points of view.

[00:10:16] Ruth Cummings: Yeah,

[00:10:16] Desiree Logan: it is. Everybody have different point of view of how they serve. Yes. And, but you know what? We all gonna come back and serve still regard. You’re serving God, I don’t care how you’re serving or whatever, your religion, your present, you’re still gonna serve a God that’s suits your um, ability.

[00:10:34] Ruth Cummings: Yes. Yes.

[00:10:35] Ruth Cummings: So how about, um, I’m gonna change subjects now. Thank you for your, uh, you, your God opinion, because that’s important. People ask that often. So tell me about being, um, a mom to a collegiate. How’s that ?

[00:10:49] Desiree Logan: Oh, they have his ups, they have his down with my Emmanuel and he’s an athlete, wide receiver. Um, I pray of all pray constantly all the time.

[00:11:02] Desiree Logan: Dispenses Lord Minister Angel, to cover him as he opted on the field and so no harm or danger against him, but I understand. Yes, he gonna get hurt. That’s, that’s life that’s coming. He’s a human being. He’s out there in a, a sports. Very ruthless. You know, they going hit, they’re gonna tackle. But mind Emmanuel, that’s why he, he’s, his name is Emmanuel because his name was prophesied to me before he was even thought of.

[00:11:29] Desiree Logan: Love it. Love that. Emmanuel is, um, he need God with him and his, um, what it is, Emmanuel, God is always with. . I mean, that’s why, um, he been prophesied before I even know I was pregnant. Wow. But he’s a twin to a female . But that’s why you’re so protective. Mm-hmm. . So Emmanuel, um, he have determined mind and when he like set his mind on a certain play or how to do, he let the coaches know.

[00:12:02] Desiree Logan: He’s a very helpful person on the field and he likes to get out there and he. as well too. But yes, he have his up and he have his down mentally as well too. So then I have to encourage him as, um, on the field and off the

[00:12:16] Ruth Cummings: field. Yes. So what, what, what, um, would you say to other moms with collegiate athletes who have, um, the same worries that we do?

[00:12:28] Ruth Cummings: Like what would you tell them what their, is their first. , you know, this is your sixth year with him? Yeah, because he’s a sixth year senior, but so you’re, you’re more,

[00:12:37] Desiree Logan: you have. You know, support, support. You have to support them and, um, what they want to do. How far they, how far they going, just keep being there.

[00:12:44] Desiree Logan: Being a supporting mom or parent, both parents in the household. I’m a single parent to Emmanuel, excuse me. And, um, I support him in everything he do. Decision he’s made. But sometime as a, a parent or mother, as a mother, I don’t feel like everything’s right. But he, in his eye, he know the, the expect. But I just pray and.

[00:13:07] Desiree Logan: Let lead him and guide him in the right way and let him make the right decision. As the athlete and stuff, we just keep praying. That’s my thing. I have to keep praying. We can talk , but Right. You have to keep praying and keep him under the, on word of God. That’s a good

[00:13:23] Ruth Cummings: point. Mm-hmm. . So what else would you say for like a, um, how do you take care?

[00:13:28] Ruth Cummings: We’ve been talking about this. How would you take care of your. in this time because it’s very stressful for parents, for moms. Yes. It’s very, we watch our kid and it’s like, whoa, why are, why did you what? Wait and, and we’re not there.

[00:13:44] Desiree Logan: Yes. That’s why I thank God for Ms. Ruth that he got a chance to meet Ru Ms.

[00:13:49] Desiree Logan: Ruth. How, how they met. I got the story, but I’m not gonna tell that story. He or Ms. Ruth will tell that story. But, um, thank God for Ms. Ruth. You know, he’s thousands of miles, 1600 miles away from us, and you, you pray that he meets someone that can encourage him as, uh, get him the right guidance too and stuff.

[00:14:08] Desiree Logan: Especially he’s thousand of miles away and they re make the right decision and what he, what he needs to do in life, on the field, off the field. So, yeah. Yeah, man. Uh, that’s a tough cookie with Emmanuel, I support. Whatever he do, I still support him, but that’s tough. My man work that nerve sometimes. I’m sorry to say he worked that nerve.

[00:14:30] Ruth Cummings: You guys are so cute together. I would’ve film that sometimes it’s like ping pong,

[00:14:35] Desiree Logan: ping ding.

[00:14:36] Ruth Cummings: And I do that with my kids. It’s just funny to watch it with someone else’s. And um, like

[00:14:40] Desiree Logan: you see how each family member I really had. , your,

[00:14:43] Ruth Cummings: your son reminds me of my son. Where, um, they love to argue, but they’re saying they’re not arguing.

[00:14:48] Ruth Cummings: Mm-hmm.

[00:14:49] Desiree Logan: I’m just like, what? Like I said, going in one ear mm-hmm. , and go watch the other one. . And that’s what he mean. You are, he listened. Yeah. Mom button. But, but mom, but mom, but what, what word did you not understand? . And then a few minutes later, or a day or two at my month. Come on. , like with the records, he, he wanna take the records he wants to take, but that’s a value in my f me, between me and my sister.

[00:15:17] Desiree Logan: Yeah, but he wanna take the records and listen to ’em. , I know how he is. Oh no, you’re not taking them.
